The final stage of the works to Sea Road Cleethorpes will get underway in the second week in June.
This will make sure it’s completed ahead of the main tourism season and before the final stage of the Government’s COVID roadmap begins.
The road has been extensively remodelled, with a new roundabout installed at the pier end to help traffic flow. The footpaths have also been widened on one side, and re-laid to fit in with the rest of the Cleethorpes regeneration works completed last year, making the area pedestrian-friendly with better connections between the promenades and town centre.
From Wednesday 9 June to Friday 11 June, overnight resurfacing works will be taking place on Sea Road and into Central Prom and North Prom. Following this work there will be further overnight work on Monday 14 June to install the new road markings.
To allow these works to take place, there will be a full road closure of Sea Road on all dates from 9pm – 7am. During the overnight working hours, there will be no vehicular access to the North Prom, and Central Prom will be accessible only from Brighton Slipway. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times throughout the road closures both in Sea Road and along the Promenades.
Sea Road will be re-opened during the day and we hope that by completing the resurfacing works overnight we will reduce the impact to businesses and visitors.
Meanwhile, a national marketing campaign continues to find an operator, or operators for the planned new multi-functional building on the corner of Sea Road and the Central Prom.
As reported, planning permission has already been secured for a building on the high-profile site at the heart of the resort, which will also house important visitor facilities.
The whole Sea Road project is supported by £1m funding from the Local Growth Fund, secured by the Humber LEP as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse, with the remainder from the Council’s capital and Local Transport Plan funds.
