North East Lincolnshire Council’s street cleansing team are mobilising for the busiest weekend of the year in Cleethorpes.
Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the resort for the first Armed Forces Day weekend since 2019.
If you are visiting the resort and a bin is full, please find another or take your rubbish home with you.
The street cleansing team are covering the resort from 5am to 10pm and are rolling out extra bins and vehicles in response to the numbers of people expected.
Cleethorpes has more than 320 litter bins, including many for recycling paper and plastic bottles.
For Armed Forces Weekend, the street cleansing team are taking these additional measures:
- Adding extra-large bins in Market Place, Alexandra Road and by the Pier
- Installing two skips for litter in Kingsway
- Increasing how often they empty the bins along the seafront from North Promenade to the Fitties
- Litter picking on foot for the duration of the event.
Usually, they would drive along the promenade to empty the litter bins, but this isn’t possible when there are large crowds of people. Instead, they will wheel bins to a stationary bin wagon on Central Promenade and have smaller roving wagons on the North Promenade and between the Leisure Centre and the Fitties. Any traders operating in the resort must have their own arrangements in place for disposing of their business waste.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said:
“Cleethorpes is a fantastic resort to visit, it’s also an internationally important site for nature and wildlife. We all have a part to play in looking after it.
“With thousands of visitors expected this weekend, our street cleansing team are putting in additional measures in response to the demands, but they need your help.
“Please give them space to do their jobs and if a bin is full, find another or take your rubbish home with you.”
