A number of road safety improvements have been carried out in Brereton Avenue, Cleethorpes, with the aim to improve road safety, reduce vehicle speeds by reinforcing the 20mph speed limit and providing a safer environment for all residents and road users.
Initial works were carried out in October 2019, with some works starting earlier than planned at the request of residents. As part of the scheme, the following works have been carried out:
- Installation of speed cushions and speed humps.
- Installation of speed vehicle activated signs.
- Additional 20mph roundel road markings in Brereton Avenue and streets leading on to Brereton Avenue have been installed to reinforce the 20mph zone.
The final piece of works – the installation of speed vehicle activated signs – will be installed on Monday 20 January. These works will take one day to complete. No traffic management on the carriageway will be required to complete this last phase of work.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “We know the issues in Brereton Avenue have been a pressing issue for local residents for some time. We have acted on their concerns and hope that carrying out these works, we are able to reduce incidents along this stretch of road.
“We have done an extensive investigation into the collisions that have occurred along this road, analysing data and working with our partner agencies to come up with a scheme that will aim to improve road safety, reduce vehicle speeds and reinforce the 20mph limit.”
Over the coming months, road safety engineers will closely monitor Brereton Avenue and, as with all road safety schemes, undertake further speed surveys and engage with residents and ward councillors to measure the effectiveness of the scheme in combatting road safety issues in the area. The works have been carried out by the council’s regeneration partner, ENGIE.
