Residents and businesses are encouraged to highlight any concerns ahead of a project to improve road safety and traffic flow at Toll Bar roundabout.
North East Lincolnshire Council’s Cabinet approved changes in December to the original scheme which will see the roundabout retained. Additional lanes into the roundabout will be constructed to help traffic get through the junction more efficiently.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Cabinet member for transport and the environment, said the project will be put out to tender by the council and its regeneration partner ENGIE in April to appoint a contractor to deliver the works.
“We are acutely aware of the potential issues to residents and businesses while the works are undertaken,” he said. “To that end, we will be asking potential contractors to give options on increasing the speed of delivery and reducing the impact on those affected. If residents or businesses have any specific concerns, they are encouraged to get in touch with the delivery team ahead of the works beginning in July.”
In the meantime, the engagement team is liaising with residents, stakeholders, including Tollbar Academy, emergency services and Stagecoach, to ensure all factors which will impact on the local area are taken into consideration. To help achieve this, it is holding a drop-in event to enable interested parties to discuss the proposals.
It is taking place on Monday, March 16 from 5pm to 8pm in the drama hall at Toll Bar Academy, Station Road, New Waltham, Grimsby, DN36 4RZ.
Once the contractor is appointed in May, further details will be known on how traffic will be managed during the works programme. The works, deliberately timed to coincide with the end of the summer term at Tollbar Academy, are expected to last five months. The work is being jointly funded by a £1.5m grant from the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership with additional support from North East Lincolnshire Council and Section 106 funding from nearby housing development sites.
