“We know it’s tough and it will continue to be tough but please stay strong and stay at home. Local lives depend on it.” This is the message today from North East Lincolnshire’s Council Leader, Philip Jackson, and North East Lincolnshire CCG’s senior clinician, Dr Peter Melton.
“We are really pleased to say the vast majority of people in North East Lincolnshire willingly heeded the directive to stay at home this weekend and didn’t let the spring sunshine break their resolve,” said Cllr Jackson.
“While there were a few people who clearly still do not understand that meeting up socially with others risks the life of every one of that group and other people they then come into contact with, we’re very proud that our citizens are on the whole doing the right thing and staying at home.”
The Council and CCG are aware many people may find the forthcoming Easter Weekend difficult but urge people to remember that they are being asked to sacrifice time spent with their wider families and communities so they will be able to share many more important times together in the future.
Dr Peter Melton said: “While the current restrictions may seem tough, we are fighting a virus that thrives on togetherness. Getting together with people outside your household could well make one, some, or all of you extremely ill and sadly, some of you would not recover.
“The large numbers of deaths that are being reported daily are all someone’s loved ones, with some people not even getting the chance to say goodbye. Coronavirus can attack anyone. Anyone can get it. Anyone can spread it.
“For the sake of everyone, please make this Easter Weekend one that you spend at home.”
Cllr Jackson added: “We would like to sincerely thank all those key workers in North East Lincolnshire who continue to do their jobs in this concerning time to keep the rest of the community cared for, secure, and able to buy their household essentials so the majority of people can play their part by staying at home.”
