Demolition is starting at a key site along Cleethorpes sea front, as the first stage in its complete redevelopment gets underway.
Contractors from locally based GBM Demolition will move onto the land on the corner of Sea Road on Monday, May 4, to begin removing the former Waves venue and the boat house, which was used by the Beach Safety team.
Hoardings will be erected around the site, with no disruption to passing traffic as a temporary highway realignment on Sea Road has taken place. This has involved highway widening to allow space for the hoardings and a footway.
The current temporary road design will remain until work is totally complete at the site, including demolition, clearance and redevelopment. Once the whole project is finished, the land widths are likely to alter with permanent footpaths constructed and new drainage installed, with the traffic lane management and mini-roundabout remaining.
In taking the decision to start, all the Government COVID-19 safe working guidelines will be followed, and it has been confirmed that all required resources are available.
Supported by a £1m award from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership’s (HLEP) Local Growth Fund, the overall Sea Road Project has been masterminded by North East Lincolnshire Council and is being managed by ENGIE.
Demolition will take approximately two months and had initially been planned to start in March. It was postponed due to the coronavirus crisis, to allow for the appropriate Government guidance to be considered and plans put into place to ensure it was followed.
