Council to revamp properties with energy efficiency upgrades

North East Lincolnshire Council has recently secured Government funding to upgrade selected homes with insulation in an effort to reduce energy bills for residents.

The council and its regeneration partner EQUANS, will support households with up to £10,000 worth of improvements per property to install loft insulation, cavity wall insulation or external wall insulation.

The scheme will help households with low income or those who receive means-tested benefits to reduce heat loss in their properties, making their home warmer and in turn reducing energy bills.

Funding for the scheme comes from the Government’s Local Authority Delivery allocation of the Green Homes Grant and will fully cover the costs of the installs for eligible householders.

A number of properties will receive upgrades, with homeowners and private renters able to benefit – although landlords will need to contribute one third of the costs.

Landlords may be eligible to support through Energy Repayment Loans, made available by North East Lincolnshire Council. Details of the loans can be found at www.nelincs.gov.uk/homes-and-property/housing-grants-and-loans/

Councillor Callum Procter, portfolio holder for economic growth, housing and tourism, said: “We hope that by upgrading homes with insulation, we can reduce energy bills for our residents, particularly those who struggle to afford them.

“Not only will the scheme benefit residents, but it will also improve household energy efficiency across the borough, helping to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment.”

According to the Energy Saving Trust, external solid wall insulation can save the average household around £225 a year on fuel bills.

The council is working with energy experts YES Energy Solutions to help qualify householders for the scheme which will run up to March 2022.
