The Conservative administration of North East Lincolnshire Council has “grasped the nettle” on the housing agenda.
The leader of NELC, Councillor Philip Jackson, told a meeting at Grimsby Town Hall how the administration is examining ways of bringing more empty homes back into use.
“We’ve grasped the nettle on the housing agenda, with the Portfolio Holder securing Cabinet approval for a revised and more focused approach to developing our key housing sites, including the former Western School,” he said.
“This will result in better local housing developer engagement and without the bureaucratic, protracted and, frankly, unsuccessful procurement process to which the previous administration was wedded.
“We’re also looking at innovative ways to bring more empty homes back into use in order to try to address what has been a long-standing problem in the older parts of Grimsby and Cleethorpes.”
As reported back in March, the former Western School site off Cambridge Road, Grimsby, and the playing fields of the former Lindsey Lower School, in Cleethorpes, have been earmarked for almost 500 new homes through a Homes England grant of £2,677,202. Read more by clicking here.
NELC is hosting a series of drop-in sessions for people to report empty homes, talk about the impact that they have on local communities, and for investors to find out more about properties available to purchase in the area.
The sessions will be held at New Oxford House, 2 George Street, Grimsby, DN31 1HB on: Monday 23rd September from 10am to noon; and Friday 27th September from 2pm to 4pm.
