New wheelie bins have been emptied for the first time as part of North East Lincolnshire Council’s massive shake-up of recycling.
Bin deliveries started at the end of July. The first homes to receive them are putting them out for the first time this week.
Almost 10,000 homes received new bins in the first two weeks of the roll out. Another 5,000 are being delivered this week.
Households in parts of Waltham, Humberston, Cleethorpes, Scartho and Great Coates are among those receiving bins this week.
Next week deliveries will be made in parts of Laceby, Old Clee, East Marsh, Heneage and Immingham.
Check your delivery dates
People can check their delivery date by visiting the recycling bins page at www.nelincs.gov.uk/bins.
Some new build homes, communal properties and houses with no front garden will not appear on the calendar. There are some other properties missing from the calendar and The Council is working to fix this as soon as it can.
If your property does not have a front garden and restricted access to the rear garden, the Council will write to you soon to let you know what is happening. If you have a new build property, your bin will be delivered when our crews get to your area. There are no changes for communal properties with shared bins.
There have been some delays to recycling and garden waste collections this week.
If crews miss your street, please put your bins or boxes out before 7am the following morning and they will catch up as soon as they can.
What happens to existing recycling boxes?
Households can keep their recycling boxes as storage tubs, planters or find other uses for them.
North East Lincolnshire Council is working with Stallingborough-based recycling company Grimsby Granulation Ltd to collect and recycle the unwanted boxes. The boxes are ground into pellets ready to be used to make new products.
Leave your unwanted boxes with the new recycling bins on the first recycling collection day.
Unwanted boxes can also be returned to the Community Recycling Centres in Grimsby or Immingham.
Thank you
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:
“I’d like to thank all the households that are embracing the new bins and putting them out for the first time. I’m also grateful to our waste crews as they adapt to the new rounds.
“More and more people in North East Lincolnshire are recycling. It saves energy and helps transform existing items into something new.
“Remember to wash and squash plastic bottles and flatten cardboard boxes when putting them in your bin.
“Bin deliveries continue at a rapid pace with about 5,000 homes receiving new bins each week.”
He added:
“We’re taking a phased approach to deliver the new bins one round at a time ahead of the busy Christmas holiday.
“The second phase of the project starts in the New Year and that’s when the Council will start taking a wider range of plastics.”

The new bins replace existing recycling boxes. Households are being told to start using the bins as soon as they arrive.
Mark your bin with your house number and make a note of the unique reference number on the side of the bins, so you know which is yours.
All bins come with an instructional leaflet. Copies of the leaflet are also on the recycling bins page of council website at www.nelincs.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling/new-recycling-bins/.
Collection days will remain the same for most homes until early 2021. There are no changes to collections for household waste, garden waste or collections from communal bins.
The new recycling bins are 240 litres, the same size as the standard green bins for household waste.
Two 240 litre bins for recycling, collected four-weekly, had the highest number of people who said they strongly support it during the waste strategy consultation, which ended in January.
