North East Lincolnshire Council is asking you to have a say on how CCTV is used in communities and town centres.
The consultation, which is available to complete in public libraries and online here, gives people the chance to read and then express their views on the council’s strategy which sets out how the local authority hopes to use CCTV. This also gives people an opportunity to express their thoughts on the current CCTV network.
The move comes as the council prepares to launch its new CCTV strategy, to assess the needs of the area.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “We have quite a large network of static and mobile cameras dotted around the borough. Many of these are in hot spots where we have a history of issues. CCTV is important in communities – it can be a deterrent to would-be criminals, and can reassure residents. On the other hand, there is a question of privacy, and a part of this consultation will look at how the Council can strike a balance from deterring crime and safeguarding a person’s right to privacy.
“This is an opportunity for people to have their say on what is already offered and what they think to our new, CCTV strategy. Have your say and help protect your neighbourhood from crime and anti-social behaviour.”
Paper copies are available in Lincs Inspire libraries and the council’s customer access points. The consultation closes on Monday, January 20.
