A series of new tactile pedestrian crossings will be installed in Grimsby and Immingham to improve pedestrian safety.
The new crossings will be lowered, becoming a dropped kerb, to almost road-level to make it easier for people to cross and they will include raised dots so people with sight loss can navigate the crossing.
The crossings will be introduced during late February and March.
Welholme Avenue and Bargate Avenue junction – Work should begin on Monday 14 February 2022 and finish on Friday 25 February 2022. Temporary four-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm each day.
Normandy Road and Davenport Drive junction – Work should begin on Monday 28 February 2022 and will take about three days to complete. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm.
Balmoral Road and Davenport Drive junction – Work should begin on Wednesday 2 March 2022 and will take around three days to complete. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm.
Community Centre entrance on Washdyke Lane – Work should begin on Monday 7 March 2022 and will take approximately three days to complete. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm.
Washdyke Lane and Park Close junction – Work should begin on Wednesday 9 March 2022 and will take approximately three days to complete. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm.
The Pelham entrance on Washdyke Lane – Work should begin on Monday 14 March 2022 and will take approximately three days to complete. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm.
Washdyke Lane and Beechwood Avenue junction – Work should begin on Wednesday 16 March 2022 and will take approximately three days to complete. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be in place between 7:30am and 6pm.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “These vital improvements will give all pedestrians greater confidence when crossing these busy hotspots, especially those residents with disabilities. Delivered with funding from our Local Transport Plan, it is the latest in a series of works in the area to improve road safety for everyone.”
North East Lincolnshire Council, its regeneration partner EQUANS and engineers McCann & Co apologise for any disruption during the works.
